The Enrolment Timeline

Staffing is a yearlong problem that schools are constantly spending more resources on than they need to.

September: Your enrolment lists need to be submitted by the end of the month to be assessed for compliance with class sizes, collective agreements, and more. Staffing lists also need to be finalized.

October: You start planning for the next year. enrolment projections are created, 5-year projections are created for capital planning purposes, and by the end of the month, the Ministry will determine how much funding the board will receive.

November / December: All projections are finalized, boundaries change, and eligible schools are closed, process for accomodation and boundary review committees is started, schools lay the foundation for budgets, and high level staffing needs for the next year.

January / February: From here on, your focus is on the next year. School districts with software quickly identify and act on their staffing needs. enrolment projections are analyzed and a conservative projection is accepted.

March / April: enrolment reporting to the ministry takes place on March 31st. Boards focus on community consultations, boundary changes, school openings and closures, and start planning for 2 years out. Hiring is an ongoing process as schools scramble to fill out their roster.

May / June: Schools finetune their enrolment projections based on actual registrations. Your administration teams work tirelessly to appease all requests from the Ministry.

July / August: While teachers enjoy the summer vacation, school administration staff are forced to cope with inaccurate enrolment projections.
